... .. .

My sense blogging is pathetic... Last update: August?

WORK:
Anyways, everyone should keep an eye on Spoiled Milk, as our activities are becoming full-time. We're playing chess with our lives and this seemed like the perfect move. Quit my other job (the it-support thing) from Dec. 1st, so my design skills will have to suffice to make the money keep rolling in.

LIFE:
I feel like I have dedicated most of my time to making the change from doing Spoiled Milk as a hobby to it actually being my work. I keep thinking I should be grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to do this at the age of 23 and not have to wait at least 3-4 years, call myself a design school graduate and then look for people who would want to hire me. I'll be taking this at my own pace now. (See how my life evolves around work at the moment - well it's going to do that a lot more I reckon!)

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:
The ASBTTT (short for A Soft Blow To The Temple aka. my METAL band) full-length CD is being mastered as we speak. Don't really know the result of it yet, but this is the final touch on the music side of the CD. Now comes artwork (sponsored by Spoiled Milk, of course) and a possible distribution/record deal. I'm hopeful that people will enjoy it.. I think the response from those who have heard bits of it, has been great so far. Unless of course, they're just being nice!

Having written this update for the last half hour, makes me wonder who actually reads my blog. Do I update you with something that you don't already know?

After having returned from Sweden a couple of weeks ago, I decided to edit some of the footage we took up there.
the return from sweden

I've returned with a rough mix of my first band album in my hand and it's turned out better that we could have hoped for. Hopefully you will be able to get your filthy hands on this wonder later this year - of course with artwork by Spoiled Milk.

This was my first trip to Sweden, but I felt it was more like Fyn than any other country. Next time I think I will have to travel further north to see something new. And it will give me a good reason to spend the 300 SEK I have left.

I would like to recommend everyone to buy the new underoath album - it has so far been the only album to really impress me. I have yet to listen more to the new Thursday, which I have also purchased.

Literaturhaus

I went to the Literaturhaus last night along with Mads, Frederik, Frederik's friend Jeppe, Russell and Stine to watch Mount Eerie and two other support bands. Actually it was the support that was the most interesting, as Portland based Adrian Orange did a great and entertaining performance.

The whole show reminded me of sitting in the basement of the Here shop in Bristol, watching very small art bands.

I thought of doing a "music recommendations" thing here in my blog and update it more often. I will also include other art orientated things that might fall into my lap. If you're interested in what I'm actually listening to right now, then go see my last.fm account.

Here we go;

WHEN WALKING DOWN THE STREET AND THE SUN IS SHINING;

Aberdien - "Kaleidoscope": Part of the new interesting emotive rock music (yes, it's emo). I like the licks and melodic guitar parts, ala. As Cities Burn. (purevolume.com/aberdien)

WHILE YOU'RE WORKING OR COOKING OR DRINKING OR SLEEPING;

Surfjan Stevens - "Illnois": I got this from Russell, but it's quite good - singer/songwriter who has set upon making an album for each state in the US. (myspace.com/sufjanstevens)

WHEN YOU'RE DOING ANYTHING ELSE;

Taking Back Sunday - "Louder Now": The new album is good. Good for the summer and good enough for me. If you stop thinking of them as TBS but more as Foo Fighters, I think you'll understand this album.
Building an empire from the bottom of the sea...

We all saw Thrice play Loppen last night and all I can say is that it was absolutely one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Russ and I both couldn't believe that we would be so privileged to see one of our favourite bands perform their greatest songs only 2 meters away from us. INCREDIBLE! And the gig was nowhere near sold out. There was lots of room and most of the crowd were kids, who are easily pushed away if they get out of hand. Only downside was me headbutting Russ' shoulder, almost resulting in me biting through my bottom lip.. What harm you wouldn't do to yourself to enjoy a good show!

Now we're sat in our office, mending our wounds and Russ' is importing music onto his new video Ipod - I envy the bastard. Fair play to the guy finally landing a job in the danish capitol as an interactive media programmer (or something like that, correct me on this).

As for me, I'm still working for the Government - I wish I could say it's the secret service or something - but still helping people keep their computers alive and working.

We had to turn down our first offer for a new flat, basically beucase of complications in how the relationship between owner and us was going to be. So next week, we'll keep on looking for a new place. Please, if anyone knows of any place available - tell me! We need a four-five room flat, not too far off the centre of Copenhagen (although is not a must!).

That was all - I hope all of you are enjoying the sun and the warmth that has suddenly swept across this country. I'm loving this!

updates

This doesn't happen very often...

After two weeks of illness, I seem to be back on my feet. Started working again has left me tired and worn out at nights and right now I feel like updating my livejournal will be the last thing I do tonight (its 10 pm). There's a few things that makes me feel awake in this state I'm in and among those things are Spoiled Milk and the fact that I'm going to be recording an album this summer with A Soft Blow. The songs we've been writing are some of the best things that I've ever written with any band I've been in and I think I'll be very pleased once this shit hits the shelves. :) I'm pleased!

As you can tell my life consists of only a few things and to me it feels like the days are just going by as they should. But all too fast! It's been almost a year since Russell and I started up Spoiled Milk on a serious plan and it's been a great year so far. Hopefully everyone else enjoys our work and I'm content to push my creativity even further in year two.

Money! Money is always an issue and I think this is my main concern! Can anyone help me figure out how to deal with this so I doesn't bother me everyday I wake up!? I know, I know; Just get another job - I would, except for the fact that I simply don't have the time if I want to devote myself completely to my passions... BIG MEH! Sometimes I wish I was on a course that would grant me an extra 4500 kr. a month. Would I then have time for the things I do? Probably not.

Speak soon!

update

I haven't updated my journal in about 8 months - actually the last time I updated was July 22nd 2005.

We now write 2006 and we're in the middle of the coldest month in of year in Denmark. And I can feel it, hence my dripping nose and sore throat. I just wanted to give an insight into what's going on over here in the capitol of bacon.

- Spoiled Milk is getting bigger and bigger and we have some really good projects coming up. We have a studio from where we use two computers to create stuff. It doesn't get much simpler than that. We love it and enjoy every minute of it.

- The flat is getting more tidy I reckon, though I can't wait for summer 'cos I'm sure it was a lot bigger back then.

- My morning job is going quite well. It's pretty easy and the people there are easy to be around. I spend the first hour drinking coffee and check e-mails. Then again - I'm kinda paying my own wages by tax, so I don't know if I should feel guilty for not working. Meh!

- New music, new music! Mainly stuff that I play myself. I've joined a band by the name, A Soft Blow To The Temple - website (obviously done by Spoiled Milk) can be found at www.templecult.dk. There's mp3s at purevolume.com/asoftblowtothetemple or myspace.com/asoftblowtothetemple. And then there's my acoustic band with my friend Nikolas called Remembering Eva. It's a small musical project more as a tribue to his mum who passed away in December 2004. Can be heard at purevolume.com/rememeberingeva or myspace.com/rememberingeva.

End of the self-promoting. And end of my livejournal update.

This morning I went out to visit temp agencies to see if they had anything available and what happens? The first one I visit has a job for me till August 30th. Amazing! The job consists of basic office work where I work with farms who apply for financial support. I'm starting with ten others on Thursday - how bad can it be? Its 110 DKK an hour which will probably make me about £1000 a month after taxes. Awesome! :)

I'm out to play tennis in 30 degrees and sun with my brother.

So I moved in to the new flat today and I must say this is a place that I will be very very happy. I couldn't help but to smile when I went to get a pint of milk at the local supermarket this afternoon. I have a busy few weeks ahead of me but I feel confident that everythings going to work out - as it always does. Job hunt it is then - wish me luck.

So I arrived alright in the motherland monday evening at 10.30 pm danish time. Tuesday I went to the capital to meet with the folks that Sarah, Russ and I are taking the flat over from - very nice people... The flat was bigger and better than I expected. Especially the area that it's in, just couldn't be better! I mean, at one end of the street you got a big lake-thing with ducks etc. and the other is a nice and quiet street with a bakery and shops. I know this is going to be amazing! I DON'T MISS BRISTOL AT ALL!!! (apart from the people - can you come with me please?)

Wednesday I had a further look at it with my parents and we measured the rooms to make sure that the beds will fit and other things. Now back in my hometown, Vejle, I'm sorting out my stuff today so I'm ready for the actual move on Saturday morning. When that's over, job hunt and even design-experience-job-hunt plus sorting everything before Hans and Grethel comes in 3 weeks.

A special thanks for those who came down to the party last thursday - it was an amazing evening and it meant a lot to me to say goodbye! I hope you're all still good.

I had my first visit to Wales yesterday, when I went to see Mea Culpa play in Newport. I gotta say, I wasn't impressed by the place nor the people - then again, I had been warned. As all of you might have noticed Summer has hit the South West and with its 25-30 degrees, it's a bit too much for me. But I shouldn't complain - I've been waiting for it!

Work at EMCOR (www.emcoruk.com) is going well - I keep getting hired for another week and my collegues are tolerable and so is the work I'm doing. Only downside is my pay, but I'll hopefully get that sorted soon.

It's weird how today I feel like I'm on holiday - might be because of the massive change in weather that makes me feel like I'm not in Bristol but in South France or something else - who knows? I'm enjoying it.

I hope everyone will be able to make our goodbye party on the 30th June at Elbow Room's 1st floor @ 8 pm - please come! If you can't, write your lame excuse as a comment. You have truly betrayed me!

Have a great sunday/father's day!

PS: http://www.spoiledmilk.dk is now working as well!

so its almost near the end...

i've booked my plane ticket back to Denmark on 4th July. It's not because of its significance that I've chosen that day - It's simply two days before the people that we're getting our flat from, are going away. So I need to be there to meet them.

Everythings falling into place.

1. We got ourselves a flat in Copenhagen
2. I'm still working at EMCOR (emocore?) doing my thing. They've just prolonged my stay a week. And I hope they continue to do so till I leave. It would be nice!
3. Sarah has decided to come along and stay at least August/Sept. in Denmark, to see if she can find anything that will suit her a bit more than the course she is doing now.
4. I've already sold a few of my cds - but I could get rid off so many more, so remember to check out http://cds.chybertz.dk and buy some! I need the money for the first rent/deposit for the flat, so please support me. :)

We're planning a goodbye party at the end of June, so keep your calendars free!

Till next time,

getting a job is easy...

i was walking around town today to sign up for all the recruitment agencies and stepped into pertemps by college green. after having filled out all the forms and gone through a spelling and a date entry test, i was ready to leave. but then i heard in the background some people talking about a person who apparently had just left a company she was temping for. enter casper! i was brought there by two girls and worked there from 2-5 pm today. i'm gonna do data entry and general help there for the next two weeks for £6.00 an hour, which i guess is quite ok.
never had i thought it'd be this easy.

i got a referral for my last major project at u.w.e. so now i have to find out why that is - i was shocked and pretty annoyed that my tutor had just left me in the dark. i hope its just a simple document that i haven't handed in. we'll see.

good & bad news.

you could sort of say that i ended my course today, as the exhibition of our final major project opened this evening. i'm pleased with me result, a photo montage ala david hockney (pictures coming soon). and then i was told that i did not get in to the danish graphic institute. this counts as my first let-down in my graphic design career pursuit, but i take it with strong mind. i'm sure there was good reason for them to choose someone else and i hope that someone else will just be me in 1-2 years. still going to copenhagen with russell, still building the spoiled milk empire further and still keeping my chin up.

all we can do now is wait...

i finished my last test today at 12.30 and that was it. we'll see tomorrow if im in or not (or maybe not till later this week.) here's a little resumé of how things went.

.saturday.

outside the school people had gathered to participate in the first examination test, a poster for particular subject. the brief was to make a poster for the votation in september, when denmark has to decide if they want to accept the treaty made in the european union. the poster had to make younger people vote more, so it wasn't a question of yes or no.
the poster i did was a voting box made from x's - the title we had to use was "put your x in the future". so that went pretty well. and that helped me go onto the next day. yay!

.sunday.

yesterday was not really the best days i've had in my creative life. the assigment we were given was to do a campaign for high heels. it had to be a series of three illustrations. it was definitely more of an idea based assignment but the ideas weren't really there. so my resolution ended up being quite bad. we'll see how they like it.

.monday.

today went a big better as opposed to yesterday. we were given a piece of string and we had to fill out 20 little fields with ways you use that piece of string to illustrate everyday things that we usually oversee. so i chose to do, everyday electronics - illustrated by a single line. they came out quite well as little logos.

so now there's only waiting. im crossing my fingers, are you crossing yours?

tomorrow we're going to legoland...woopee!

off to the danish shores tomorrow to impress the tutors at THE DANISH GRAPHIC DESIGN INSTITUTE (as its stated on their nice letterheads). they also needed to see a monogram of our initials, in my case CHJ and here it is for you all to see

sarah is of course coming with me and i hope that we have a great time seeing all the sights in copenhagen and going back to my house and just relax in those surroundings. i for one can't wait to play on my electric guitar again. i miss her!

my bower ashton project is on a hold till i get back - its close to the deadline, but i think i've got my priorities straight.

what i've been waiting two years for and my future for three years vs. a four week project

i hope you all have a great week and i'll see you when i get back.
